Outcome mapping: Allocate survey questions to outcomes

What you’ll cover in this article

Get survey questions to indicate progress towards outcomes

When you allocate survey questions to outcomes, you can visualise results at an outcome level.

  • In the example below the 10 survey questions around the edge of the chart are all linked to an outcome called Experience of the company outcome

  • You’ll also see progress nested under the progress tracker’s outcome whenever you look at a project or album’s Impact Scorecard

What outcomes are and how to create them

  • With outcomes you go beyond simply counting the number of activities you’ve done and the number of attendees you’ve had.

  • Outcomes let you measure the difference your work makes, so that you can track, analyse and report the 5 stages of your impact rather than being limited to only the first two.

How to allocate survey questions to outcomes

You can only allocate the following types of survey question to an outcome

When creating a new survey question

Pro Tip:

  • Use shared answer choices when creating Scale-based questions (Multiple Choice trackers) that will be within the same outcome.

  • You’ll get instant Outcome Ring visualisations of your results as shown in the example above.

  • If you are on the Set the Questions tab of your survey and have clicked Add a new question: you will see the Outcome dropdown menu within the New Question popup.

  • Use the dropdown menu to select the outcome you want to allocate this question to

If the survey already exists

  1. Select Surveys in the left sidebar menu and choose Master Surveys

  2. Scroll down until you see your survey. Click its name to go to the survey’s profile page

  3. Click Actions next to the survey question. A dropdown menu appears. Select Edit

  4. A popup loads: Select an outcome using the outcomes dropdown list

  5. Press save
