What are longitudinal surveys?

Longitudinal Surveys ask the same or similar questions to the same or similar people at several points in time.

Longitudinal surveys on Makerble use Core Questions

In the example below, there are two Core Questions:
- Question 1: “Confidence to start a business”
- Question 2: “Mental wellbeing”

Each Core Question is asked at three points in time - at the Baseline, at the Midpoint and at the Endpoint
Each of these points in time is defined as a Wave
You can customise the appearance of each Core Question in each Wave of a survey
- Specifically you can
  - Hide a Core Question in a particular Wave
  - Edit a Core Question (e.g. change the way it’s worded) in a particular Wave
  - Include a Core Question in a particular Wave
This means that you no longer need to create separate surveys for each point in time that your survey is completed
Instead you can simply create a single survey which has a Wave for each point in time

Step 1: Create a single survey containing your Core Questions Pro Tip Your quantitative questions (numerical, multiple choice and checkbox) exist as Metrics that plug into Surveys, Progress Boards, your CRM, Automations and more. So when you name them, use succinct neutral terms such as Confidence to start a business given that you can customise the way they appear when displayed as a Question in each version of your survey. Step 2: Create a Wave for each point in time Common ones are: Baseline Midpoint Endpoint	Create several Shared Waves within a survey
Step 3: Add those waves to a project’s survey campaign Dictionary A survey campaign is a survey on a project If you use the same survey on several projects, add the waves to the survey campaign for each project	Add a shared Wave to a survey campaign
Step 4: Customise each Core Question’s appearance in each wave This step is optional if you don’t want to hide or edit certain questions for each wave, you can leave them just as they are	Show, Hide and Reword the Questions in each Version of a Survey
