External longitudinal research - collect survey responses from partners' participants

When you are conducting external longitudinal research, you need to collect survey responses from people whom you don’t work with directly, for example collecting survey responses from your partners' participants.

Stages of the process

There are several ways to achieve this, but first, let’s define the stages using a simple scenario of a baseline, midpoint and endpoint:

  1. Identify the participant

  2. Collect their baseline survey response

  3. Collect their midpoint survey response

  4. Collect their endpoint survey response

Considerations

Deciding the approach to use depends on your preferences in regards to these decisions:

  • Decision 1: Who is responsible for inviting people to complete each survey?

    • Your partner

    • You

  • Decision 2: If your partner is responsible for inviting people to complete the survey, will they have access to Makerble?

    • Yes

    • No

  • Decision 3: Who is responsible for reminding people to complete each survey, i.e. if they haven’t completed it within the expected timeframe (by the anticipated deadline)?

    • Your partner

    • You

When and where will surveys be completed?

  • If they are completed on your partner’s premises or in an environment they control (e.g. during a virtual meeting), then a website link will be sufficient. It can be shared with participants either in person (e.g. using a QR code) or digitally (e.g. by copying and pasting the link)
